Henri visits the PEAC Lab!

Bonjour tout le monde !! I am Henri, a biology student from ENS Paris Saclay in France. Even though I studied human health for the last two years, I was always passionate about marine biology and wanted to study megafauna, their behaviors and ecology.

The PEAC lab was a great place to get a first experience of these subjects, and visiting Western Australia is something I will remember for a long time.

Adrian and the PEAC lab welcomed me to work on flatback turtle video recordings and investigate their behavioral drivers in Yawuru Nagulagun Roebuck bay. As both male and adult females forage there, understanding how much time they allocate to different behaviors especially foraging is crucial to understand and better protect them.

I was lucky to take part in a field trip there with Rosie Brown and Jenna Hounslow to catch and tag flatback turtles. I was able to get a first hands on experience with biopsy, placing biologgers and handling such big animals. We encountered several different species and even a few flatback post hatchlings.

Visiting WA was such a new experience, from the impressive coastlines of Albany to Coral Bay, wildlife was everywhere!

I really want to thank everyone in the lab for welcoming me in such a nice environment. It was also a pleasure to share some time on the tennis courts and on the boat during the fieldtrip. I hope I will see you all very soon !!
